Training in Kunark

In effort to increase my brewing skill from 68 to 92 as well as refreash my wine stock, I spent some time brewing some White and Red wines in Firiona Vie tonight.   During my quest for Caynar nuts and Aviak Eggs, I collected quite the stacks of Grapes, Fruit, and Berries.  Luck would have it that wine suits my current skill level perfectly.

I brewed in Kunark tonight because I was doing teleporation business in the nearby Dreadlands and figured it would be a nice change of pace.  None of the ingredients come native from the zone, save for the Wine Yeast which I bought at the local brewery; but my guess is that it too was imported.

Brew of The East

Shortly after finishing the Egg Nog XXX, I became bored and decided to use some of my Elven Wine reserves to create some Faydwer Porter.

It’s unfortunate I’ve already used up (or drank?) my stock of Red Wine from North Freeport and White Wine from Qeynos.  Sure it’s true you can purchase these spirits at any proper Norrath tavern , but it makes brewing a bit more interesting when you can name where the stock came from.

Nevertheless, two bottles of Elven Wine (which I got imported at East Freeport I’ll admit; at Seafarer’s Roost if I am not mistaken), and a bottle each of Rivervale bought Red & White wines came together for a cask of Faydwer Porter:

Drunken Bird Egg Nog

Not unlike the Caynar Nut Brown Ale, this Egg Nog XXX requires some foraging.  This time in Butcherblock Mountains for Aviak Eggs.  It is also a three part brew.  First, you must bottle milk and malt to make Malted Milk, of course.  From there, mix two Aviak Eggs and Spices with the Malted Milk to create a bottle of Egg Nog:

Once you have the Egg Nog, the real fun begins!  Just toss some Brandy into a bottle 50/50 with the Egg Nog and there you have it: Egg Nog XXX.

Fortunately in this expedition I am not going for quantity, so I will not be producing any further Egg Nog XXX for now.  At least this recipe produces two servings.

Brown Nuts

So after the last posting I spent a good hour and a half foraging in Toxxiula Forest and only turned up ONE Bag of Caynar Nuts.  Nevertheless, I went ahead and brewed it into Caynar Nut Brown Ale.  The one bag produced two bottles in fact.

I brewed this one in Kaladim, as I was there scouting for other ingredients. I’ll elaborate on that in a future post.

I like this brew a lot because it is rare.  I hope to make more of them, but it will require sacrificing more valuable hours which I am not looking forward to.

Ales & Porters

After the rather unproductive conclusion of last night’s chapter of brewing, I decided to try making a little more use out of tonight.

First brewing some Ale to get warmed up, I became annoyed with purchasing oodles of Casks before moving on to something more stackable.  I recycled my Red Wine from East Freeport and Gypsy Wine from East Freeport, turning both into Porters.  Just dump 4 bottles of the stuff into a Cask – can’t get much simpler than that.  I ended up with a good deal of empty bottles, so perhaps I’ll be brewing some wine soon.  I’ll need to either do that at least to replace them in my collection.

I was fumbling through the bags in my bank when I discovered a stack of Royal Jelly Alefia and I collected just outside Felwithe during our bar crawl!  Mixing it with water and hops, I created Honey Mead.  I believe this to be my first “special” brew, for it’s region-centric ingredient. Exciting stuff.

I used some of my leftover bottles to create some Fish Wine.  I never was a fan of this stuff, but it brought my skill to level 68.

The other spirits listed in Garsen’s book include Vodka, Halfling Stouters, Halas Heater, Hulgarsh, and Bleeding Brain.  Interesting stuff here. I look forward to discovering these recipes.

For now, I have heard it would be wise to collect Bags of Caynar Nuts from Toxxiula Forest.  So I think I’ll get to gathering some of those until I run out of time tonight.

Here’s the collection I made out with tonight.  Not bad if I say so myself.

Hello Norrath!

After having completed my tour of every tavern and brewery in the lands, I’ve decided to further my experience and knowledge of Norrath’s drinkability by collecting every brew and spirit known to exist.

In addition to collecting brews sold accross the land, I’m also questing, foraging, and brewing those which cannot be bought.  During my initial journey through the pubs, I picked up a book called Brewer’s Limericks.  It contains the recipes of four traditional brews that require deciphering of riddles!

After succesfully deciphering the book’s pages, I’ve kickstarted my brewing skill level to that of 48.  In doing so, I’ve produced 20 Short Beers, 24 Short Ales,  34 Meads, and 1 Ogre Swill.  For future reference, the mention of “Froglok” in the fourth recipe is referring to Froglok Meat.   I had previously attempted and failed, to brew with the blood of a Froglok instead.

I became anxious to move on to something more substancial.  Through word of mouth I learned of two more books which I hoped would further my studies.   Clug of Oggok is said to of wrote “Barkeeps Compendium” though it is held by one Gregor Nasin in East Freeport. He will only hand over the book if you deliver him a satchel of requested items.

The other, titled Garsen’s Brewing List, is attainable in Halas at McQuaid’s Bar & Stout for a similar ransom.  Luck would have it, both books require work done in north western Antonica.  Here is my backpack in Everfrost after collecting items for both Garsen’s and Clug’s books.

Unfortunately, Garsen’s brew book turns out to be no more than a list of brews.  I was hoping for recipes, but at least it leads me in the right direction.

And what is even MORE unfortunate, when I returned to East Freeport’s Seafearer’s Roast, Gregor decided not to play fairly and “magically sealed” the Barkeeper’s Compendium, only to be opened by Clug himself.  So much for that.  I guess I’ll be paying a visit to Clug one day.
